What is spring gaging?
LION gages by Larson measure spring free-length as the springs are manufactured
and adjusts the spring pitch during production. Spring gaging produces parts
with a more consistent free-length. Out-of-spec parts are sorted out and rejected
during production.
Why should you gage?
You should gage to reduce and eliminate scrag at the point of manufacture. Your
spring coiler does not always produce the perfect spring, even if properly setup.
Spring wire often varies in diameter and tensile strength, which affects the
pitch of the resulting coil. Pitch control tooling is subject to wear, which
can affect pitch as well.
Larson will be continuing the Lion reputation
Lion Precision invented non contact spring free-length gaging in the 1960's.
The latest gages, the Panther and Lynx,
set the standard for accuracy, ease of use, and reliability. With thousands of
Lion gages installed throughout the world, our gages have long been established
as the world's best spring gages. In 2003, Larson Systems purchased the spring
gaging product line. Read more about this exciting development here!
